Hello everyone, I’m Kali Foerster. I am 21 years old and from Alliston, Ontario, Canada. Right now, I live in Prince George, BC, and attend the University of Northern British Columbia, where I am studying education.
Outside of school, I love going to the gym and playing various sports. Back in Ontario, I also have a horse I ride very frequently. I played university hockey in Michigan for two years before I decided to transfer to UNBC. I chose to go to BC over Ontario because I love the mountains, and UNBC offers an education program that can be completed in a year and a half; in Ontario, the program is two years. I want to earn my degree as quickly as possible and get out into the classroom.

The reason I want to become a teacher is very personal to me. I have dyslexia, and I’ve always struggled in school. Even to this day, school is very challenging for me. Because of my own experiences, I want to be a teacher kids feel comfortable around and excited to see. I have never really enjoyed school, and honestly, I still don’t. But I know that because I have struggled myself, I will have a lot of grace and understanding for students going through similar experiences.
I want to be an amazing teacher, so when students find school difficult or simply don’t like it, they can still look forward to having a good teacher who makes their day a little more enjoyable. Growing up, I was lucky enough to have some really good teachers who helped me, and I want to be just like them for my students one day.
Most importantly, I want my students to know that I understand what they’re going through because I have experienced many of those same struggles myself. I know I won’t be the smartest teacher in the room, but I hope I can connect with students in a different way and help them feel understood, supported and comfortable being themselves.
